Introduction to Energetics
What if I told you that energy isn’t just a mystical concept or scientific jargon but something tangible you can connect with daily?
Energy often feels elusive—uncertain and unreliable for some, overwhelming for others. Yet, it governs everything we do, from how we move to how we think and feel.
This article explores what energy truly is, breaks down misconceptions, and uncovers practical ways to sense, harness, and influence it in your life—without diving into esoteric terminology.
I will attempt to avoid Chinese names to illustrate that in explaining this concept, it is unnecessary to use terms like Qi, Peng, Kundalini, Chakra, or even Yin and Yang.
...well, maybe not Yin and Yang, that one is a good one.
What is Energy?
Let's Break it down:
The word Energy comes from the Greek word enérgeia, meaning "Activity," and is recognizable in the performance of work (PSSST.We Love the Work). It is a natural phenomenon of our universe, whether ⚙️ kinetic, 🌡️ thermal, 🧲 electromagnetic, 🧪 chemical, or 🌎 gravitational (all things humans have learned to utilize). This understanding can help us understand how these things map to our minds and bodies.
Even though we have all heard about energy, we may have a different relationship with it. Still, few of us have built a deep connection with its sources, how to cultivate it, and how to repeatably move it consistently. For many of us, energy can feel like a willy-nilly concept, uncertain and unreliable, and well... woo woo. For others, it may be something you think you can access but want to deepen your understanding, and for some, energy can feel overwhelming and relentless because they are very sensitive to it.
Scientific Insight:
Scientists define energy as the ability to do work. Physics understands that energy can not be destroyed or created, that it is just a property of our existence, and that it transfers from state to state. It is often an unseen force that is felt more than seen; however, everything we see is also energy.
Philosophical Touchpoint:
At its core, energy exists in two states, Yin and Yang, and within each state, the other exists. This concept of interdependent opposites is a fundamental aspect of energy, and understanding it will broaden your knowledge and perspective.
OK, Stop it Sheldon! 🤦🏿
Sorry to present a seeming paradox. For now.
"For every Action is an equal and opposite reaction."
- Sir Isaac Newton
The basic fabric of the universe is intertwined opposites that are invariably inner connected: up, down, hot, cold, positive, negative, full, empty, structure, flow, and so on.
Misconceptions of Energy
One prevalent misconception is that energy is a mystical concept, understood only by Adept Wizards 🧙, Taichi Masters 🧘🏿, and Einstein 🔭. While there is a level of complexity, the truth is that understanding energy is within your grasp, quite literally. Your essential energy resides in your heart and lungs, but we'll delve into that later.
