Maui Qi Fest 2019
Jul 14, 2019We set an intention to create a fun, inspiring, and inclusive space of well being, that would welcome students and skilled practitioners sharing the common purpose of wellness, on the spectacular island of Maui. We hoped to commune with the Aloha Spirit, to reconnect with the earth, and to develop well-being and belonging through arts and cultural activities. Welina mai! (Welcome!)
Beginning on Summer Solstice 2019, marking the official start of Summer, this year's Qi Fest would take place at the picturesque Camp Ke´anae, an untouched, sacred location along the northern coastline of Maui.
This transformative gathering brought together warm and friendly people to learn and exchange ideas and to expand/flourish potential collaborations, through mindful movement, and healing arts.
The event included workshop-style classes for all levels including Qigong, Taichi, dance, transformative bodywork, and meditation. A special gift this year was the addition of an introductory seminar on Hawaiian culture that included a language mini-course and traditional dance performance. Mahalo. (Thank you)
With up to 5 workshops to attend each day, there was an added emphasis on discourse and connecting with other participants.
We gathered together each morning for a sunrise Qigong practice, followed by a cleansing meditation.
We shared ideas over breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, and were able to walk the Keanae grounds between our schedule of activities.
Following lunch, there may be a group beach excursion or free time during which one might take the opportunity to receive a healing session or a relaxing nap in dormitory-style accommodations. E noho malie – (Calm Relaxation)
The evening workshops began with Kung Fu and ended after dinner with traditional Indian dance.
The emphasis on Qigong exercises, Tai Chi, Kung Fu applications, dance, and meditations brought new insights to posture, breath, focus, and movement. These methods were motivating and enhanced our skillsets beyond our expectations.
The overall benefit from participating in the Qi Fest was the opportunity to learn techniques from seasoned teachers while gaining guidance and support to deepen mindfulness and broaden our practice.
Our final day ended with a hearty breakfast, community clean up, and more connecting. Aloha ‘aina. (Love of the land)
We shared hugs, took photos, and met the families of other participants as we bid our farewells. E pili mau na pomaika´i me ´oe . (Best wishes/all my love)
